I feel like if I were to buy a historical, I wouldn't want her to mingle with the AGoT at all, because I feel like it would be unnatural. LOL. I definitely wouldn't mix clothes or accessories, but that's just me... I think if you can come up with some creative, than it's cool. lol. But... I personally just have AGoTs. Mostly because I can't decide which Historical I'd want. And I don't know how I'd keep them apart.

Up to this point, all my girls are modern girls. The historical girls have ancestors who are the characters in their books, and their favorite time periods correspond to the books. This way I'm keeping their background and collection, but they're still modern. Most of the GOTYs stay the same, except Linsi isn't Jewish anymore - I had to change that when she and Marie had their big fight, to add another difference between them. I also usually change their ages or they've naturally "grown up" with me. I mix and match all the outfits, shoes and accessories. I don't even bother to store them by outfit anymore, I just store them in separates and hang up the dresses. I occasionally use the Scenes and Settings as a time-machine to 1904. The girls usually wear the historical dresses for any occasion, or at least for a costume or special event. They love to mix and match EVERYTHING. One of the reasons I love Josefina's collection so much is that her clothes are so versatile and useful (so much that I made some for myself). They like to dress up as historical characters too, as do I. I don't find it odd that they have quill pens and other "antiques" because I have those kind of things too - I think quill pens are very fun to write with!
Emily is going to be my first strictly historical doll. However, she's an exchange student from the 1940s England to our modern times in America... so that way I have an excuse to dress her up as a modern girl once in awhile.

First, that is a weird and totally wonderful coincidence about getting a #23 box at AGP purely by chance--very cool!
Second, at present, all of my dolls are modern girls who occasionally wear historical clothing for educational purposes--see my Grant's Farm Album for an example. I feel that Kit & Molly's collections are close enough in style to the AGOT clothes to be mixed and matched quite easily. They just look properly conservative for today's styles. Plus, so many of Molly & Kit's items are just darling and really match colorwise to the Today clothes. Kit is wearing her Meet outfit twin set with the new green cargo pants from the Coconut Play outfit right now and the pink matches the pink flowers in the sash just perfectly.
I think you should do whatever makes you the most comfortable. I do try to keep the clothes somewhat organized in our plastic storage containers with historical in one and modern in the other. The Addy & Kirsten clothes I've gotten will eventually go into another container to stay separated since they are more for special uses.
Since DD & I like to take the dolls all over the place, modern wear is more practical for us right now. Hopefully, we can develop a historical collection over time.
Colleen, thanks for the input on Josefina's clothes too--her collection is so pretty, I'm glad to hear you feel in incorporates well into your dolls modern gear!

I guess I just wanted some guidance or suggestions about what seems to work best for everyone (after all, these items are really a huge investment!). There really doesn't seem to be any "best" way after reading all of your helpful posts.
I think I want to make all of my girls modern girls, and maybe buy an historical outfit here and there if they call my name.
Katie -- Yes, I do believe 7 is at the top of my wishlist, haha! I begged and begged my mom for years for #7 and it was always the same story, "that's too much money for a doll!" Well, being that during my earlier years I did give a few Barbies hair cuts, I suppose I can understand her thinking (just a bit!) [img]tongue.gif[/img] Even though I have a doll now, I feel like it would still be so gratifying to get that #7 already!

Most of my girls stay in their time period but sometimes i need someone to be their friend or sister so I dress them up in other time periods. My #21 (Poppy) is my only today girl and she is best friends with Josefina. All my girls have a best friend with another one of my dolls. Felicity and Kit, Josefina and Poppy, and Samantha and Emily are good friends but they dont know each other well enough to be yet.
We only have historical dolls so far, but I fell in love with some of the Today outfits. Crossing timelines doesn't bother me at all. My DGD dresses them all the time and it doesn't bother her. I try to put the items back in the correct girls section so I can find it again.
Remember, these are YOUR dolls sp do whatever you want with their clothes or collections. Pretending to be someone else is half the fun, so I sure the dolls would enjoy that too.
Since I have all the historicals, I am asking for my first JLY doll for Christmas. She will be named after an ancestor of mine from the 1700's, but I am sure she will enjoy the bluejeans too, Go play.
When I first began collecting two years ago, a doll could only wear her own collection of clothes. Historicals never strayed out of their time and AGOTs never wore anything other than today clothes and I never, ever mixed outfits.
Then I found HB and became inspired by so many of the wonderful pictures and realized, well maybe...
So last year I got really brave and after watching the Felicity movie. I let her wear Samantha's party shoes as they looked like the dancing pair. Back to HB for more courage (aka enabling) and I thought...hey, I can do this.
Soon Addy was borrowing from Kirsten, and Kirsten (who thinks she's PollyAnna) from Sam and Sam from the JLY girls, not to mention one of my Molly's insisting on being Laura Ingles.
Now it's just one big swapping party and my girls wear whatever they want. Only problem is Jess and Marisol tend to always like the same outfit so I'm forever settling arguments between them! I just purchased the boots from the new winter set and can already here the me first!, me first! coming from a certain duo!
Having said all this, I still put the outfits back into their original set during the off season times when they're being stored. Hey, old habits are hard to break!
I rarely mix historial and AGOT clothing. I'll put historical clothing on my today girl sometimes, but never AGOT clothing on my historicals. I also like the historicals a lot more though because they have real stories behind them. Don't get me wrong, I love my #7, but I don't want another today girl (and I would get about 3 more historicals if I wanted any more dolls [img]tongue.gif[/img] ).

I have only one historical, Molly. She is wearing the Halloween outfit at the moment, however Cherry, my red haired, blue eyed AGoT is wearing Molly's Miss Victory Outfit. I have absolutely no qualms about mixing outfits and dolls.
